Ramón Fernández, the father of the renowned Mexican performer Vicente Fernández, was born on March 13, 1915, in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico. He pursued a career in farming, raising animals and cultivating crops on his farm in Jalisco. Despite facing challenges, he dedicated himself to providing for his family.
Ramón married María Paula Gómez Ponce on November 10, 1934, when he was 19 and she was 17. The couple settled on the farm and had three children. One of their children, Vicente Fernández, born in 1940, went on to become a highly acclaimed singer and passed away in December 2021 at the age of 81.
The couple also had two daughters, María Del Refugio Fernández Gómez (born 1936) and Ana María Teresa Fernández Gómez (born 1943), with conflicting reports about their current status.
Struggling to make ends meet, Ramón Fernández moved his family from Jalisco to Tijuana in the 1950s in search of better opportunities. It was in Tijuana that Vicente Fernández began his singing career, gradually gaining fame.
Ramón Fernández passed away in 1969 at the age of 54, leaving behind a significant legacy. Vicente Fernández’s father worked hard on the farm, but life was challenging. Reports suggest that he succumbed to liver cirrhosis, a consequence of excessive alcohol consumption, which he used as a means of escaping his troubles.
Ramón Fernández had several grandchildren, with four born to his famous son: Vicente Jr., Alejandro, Gerardo, and Alejandra Fernández. Additionally, his great-grandchildren, born to Vicente’s offspring, include Vicente, Ramón, Sissi, Fernanda, Alejandro Jr., Camila, América, Emiliano, and Valentina.
